North Korea praises Kim Jong-un before liberation anniversary

North Korea commemorated state founder Kim Il-sung ahead of the peninsula's liberation anniversary from Japanese colonial control. The government newspaper Rodong Sinmun published articles praising Kim Il-sung as a legendary fighter against Japanese occupation. Officials described the founder as a patriotic figure who led resistance efforts during the colonial period.

Current leader Kim Jong-un received emphasis as the inheritor of his grandfather's independence movement legacy. The newspaper referenced Kim Jong-un's 2019 winter journey on horseback to Mount Paektu, drawing parallels to Kim Il-sung's wartime activities at the same location. Writers portrayed the current leader as an unshakeable force who maintains national strength.

The publications urged citizens to demonstrate complete loyalty toward Kim Jong-un. State media characterized him as a divine presence deserving absolute dedication from the population. These articles appeared before August 15, marking 80 years since Korea gained freedom from 35 years of Japanese rule, though the subsequent Korean War created the current North-South division.
