NPS Arrests Eleven in Ol'Kalou Township for Looting After June 25 Protests

Police arrested eleven people during a Sunday operation targeting areas of Ol'Kalou Township. Officers focused their search on the Huruma and Vatican neighborhoods based on intelligence reports. Some suspects carried items that appeared stolen from June 25 protests. Authorities took all suspects into custody for processing before court appearances. Police secured recovered items as evidence for upcoming legal cases.

The National Police Service warned citizens against violent behavior during demonstrations. Officials stressed that young protesters must avoid looting and property damage. Religious leaders had visited damaged areas earlier and condemned the violence they witnessed. These faith leaders demanded swift action against people who turned peaceful protests into criminal acts. Community leaders want accountability for those who caused destruction.

Investigators conducted a similar raid in Embu County that netted six additional suspects. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations found various items at suspect homes during searches. These arrested individuals await court dates scheduled for Monday. Police operations demonstrate serious consequences for criminal activity during public gatherings. Law enforcement agencies remain committed to stopping violence at protests.

The June 25 demonstrations marked one year since major anti-Finance Bill protests occurred. Peaceful gatherings turned destructive as some participants began looting businesses and damaging government buildings. Multiple counties experienced property destruction and theft during the anniversary events. Police responses aim to prevent future violence during lawful demonstrations. Authorities emphasize that constitutional protest rights do not protect criminal behavior.
