NRM politician Twinamasiko, who attacked PM Nabbanja, walks free

Magistrate Nazifah Namayanja approved release terms for Onesmas Twinamasiko after he secured three community leaders as guarantors. The National Resistance Movement candidate faces charges related to an alleged attack on Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja during July 17 party result announcements. Court officials set his bond at 500,000 shillings without requiring cash payment. Joseph Sentayi Senkusu, Moses Rusamba, and Lawrence Bazara provided surety for the parliamentary hopeful from Bugangaizi East Constituency. Twinamasiko must return for proceedings on October 2.

Authorities detained the politician on September 3 following accusations he harmed the prime minister at Kakumiro district offices. He rejected guilt claims while requesting temporary freedom pending trial resolution. Local residents demonstrated in Kisiita town demanding his immediate release before police intervention stopped the march. Kakumiro leaders have asked President Museveni to address rising tensions between party officials. Supporters maintain the legal action represents political persecution rather than legitimate criminal prosecution.
