NRSA slams billboard mess blocking road view

The head of Ghana's road safety group hates billboards placed on road dividers. Abraham Amaliba says these signs block people from seeing cars coming when they try to cross streets. He spoke up after Diana Abrafi posted a video online showing how these signs create danger near East Airport heading toward East Legon in Accra.

Ms. Abrafi, who runs a shop nearby, made her video after she struggled to cross safely with a customer. Days later, her brother's dog was hit by a car because the driver couldn't see it crossing. The safety team checked out the spot Friday after her video caught their attention. They agreed that the signs make it hard to see around curves.

Mr. Amaliba plans to call the companies whose ads appear on these boards. He wants to find out if they have permits from the local assembly. If they do, he'll ask why officials approved something dangerous. If not, he expects the signs will come down fast. This problem keeps growing across Ghana, with many signs placed poorly on curves at heights that block views.

The safety boss praised Ms. Abrafi for speaking up. He asked all citizens to report similar hazards instead of waiting for crashes to happen first. She tried calling the ad companies herself, but they ignored her when they learned she wasn't buying anything. The safety group aims to remove illegal structures from road dividers across the country as part of their bigger push for safer roads.
