NSA Warns Against Electoral Violence and Pledges Voter Protection

Nigeria's top security chief issued stern warnings to politicians before upcoming elections across the country. National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu told political leaders they must follow proper rules during voting periods. Security forces will not allow violence or cheating during any election process. Ribadu made these statements during a Friday meeting between election security teams and voting officials. His comments came as several major elections approach in different parts of Nigeria.

The security meeting focused on protecting voters and election workers from harm. Officials discussed plans for upcoming votes that affect many government positions. These elections cover local council seats in the capital territory and empty legislative positions nationwide. Anambra State will also choose a new governor later this year. Security teams want every eligible citizen to vote without facing threats or pressure from others.

Intelligence agencies will watch for problems before voting begins across affected areas. Security forces plan to work together more closely to stop trouble before it starts. Some regions face greater risks because of armed groups that politicians might try to use. Officials will also talk directly with party leaders to reduce tensions between competing groups. These conversations have helped prevent problems during past elections.

Twelve states will hold special votes to fill empty legislative seats. The Anambra governor race happens in November. Capital territory council elections will take place early next year. Election commission leader Mahmood Yakubu asked security agencies to prepare carefully for all these votes. He wants them to use the voter registration period to practice their security plans.
