Rwakakamba urges peace, warns against election disruptions

Morrison Rwakakamba, former Uganda Investment Authority board leader, urged political followers on Wednesday to avoid disrupting what he called the nation's calmest electoral period in decades. He described current voting preparations as exceptionally orderly despite scattered disturbances, warning enthusiasts must not undermine this progress. Rwakakamba emphasized that Uganda had approached a significant shift in election conduct after years of turbulence.

His remarks followed reports of clashes blocking opposition figure Bobi Wine from campaigning in Kiruhura District. Rwakakamba contrasted today's relative tranquility with past election violence frequently dominated news coverage. Observers note security forces and politicians have shown unusual restraint ahead of the 2026 polls. Government dialogue initiatives like the Inter-Party Organization for Dialogue partially explain this change.

Analysts acknowledge minor incidents occur, but confirm the overall climate remains stable. Rwakakamba stressed maintaining discipline among party supporters to preserve Uganda's developing tradition of nonviolent political contests. He called the peaceful atmosphere both achievable and already underway across the country.
