Nsanje Scores Big With New FIFA Funded Pitch

Football Association of Malawi President Fleetwood Haiya opened the rebuilt Nsanje Youth Centre on Friday. FIFA Foundation provided 500000 dollars to fix damage from Cyclone Idai that hit during 2019. Haiya asked Nsanje District Council leaders to keep the facility working properly. The football chief wants council members to add more features until it becomes a complete stadium. Local people must protect the new sports ground from vandalism that destroys other facilities across Malawi.

Haiya believes the center will help FAM find talented players from countryside areas. The association wants football development to start at district levels before reaching national teams. Council official Mike Kafalaji promised his office will maintain the sports complex and build spectator stands next. Deputy Director Kinnah Phiri from the Ministry of Youth and Sports praised FIFA and FAM for completing the project. The new facility has a modern field, fence, VIP seating area, changing rooms and bathrooms.

Umodzi defeated Nsanje Medicals 1-0 during the opening ceremony football match. The game celebrated the completion of the sports development project. FAM executive committee members attended the facility handover event. Officials hope local teams will use the center to improve their soccer skills. The investment aims to boost sports participation throughout the southern district.
