NSE bags 12 crore investors, Gen Z flips Sensex on its head

India's National Stock Exchange reached 12 crore unique registered investors on September 23. The milestone represents growth from 11 crore participants in January 2025. Total investor accounts registered with NSE reached 23.5 crore by the same date. Women comprise one quarter of all investors on the platform.

The investor demographic shows a median age of 33 years compared to 38 years five years earlier. Nearly 40 percent of participants are younger than 30 years old. Simplified registration processes and financial education programs fuel this expansion. Market optimism supports continued participation across various investment instruments.

Systematic Investment Plan accounts increased by 2.9 crore between April and August 2025. Monthly SIP contributions averaged Rs 27,464 crore during this period versus Rs 21,883 crore the previous year.
