NUP candidate jumps ship to NRM 11 days before polls

A parliamentary candidate just ditched the opposition for the ruling party days before the vote. Patricia Kenyangi, the National Unity Platform woman MP candidate for Ibanda District, defected to the National Resistance Movement, withdrawing her candidacy with a handwritten letter to electoral officials. She cited a complete lack of promised financial support from NUP leadership, specifically naming president Bobi Wine, as the reason she and her previously defected husband could not continue campaigning.

Her exit follows a trend of last-minute departures from the opposition party as candidates face logistical and funding issues close to polling day. The move strengthens the NRM's efforts to solidify its base in western Uganda, a traditional stronghold, while NUP officials had not yet responded to the financial allegations.
