NUP to Launch Nationwide Election Fundraising Drive Ahead of 2026 Polls

NUP party leaders picked Monday July 7 2025 to start asking people for money. They want cash to help pay for their 2026 election campaign. David Lewis Rubongoya told reporters about their plans during a Wednesday meeting at party offices. The party hopes members and supporters will give money to help them win votes. They plan to ask people from Uganda and other countries for donations.

Party officials say they need lots of cash because running for office costs plenty of money. They want to spend donations on helping their candidates and moving people around the country. The money will also pay for teaching voters about elections and keeping voting safe. Rubongoya said giving money stays totally voluntary for everyone who wants to help. People who believe their political ideas can choose to donate or not.

NUP leaders also talked about problems with picking candidates inside their party. They made a special group to handle complaints from people who want to run for office. Party bosses said candidates can choose whether they want to work together or compete against each other. Nobody has to quit the race if they want to keep running for elections.

The party also warned about dangerous gangs working in cities across Uganda. They believe the government uses these groups to mess with their election plans. NUP officials think these gang members will face trouble later for helping political enemies. They want supporters to watch out for people trying to stop their campaign work.
