Nyambirai Fires Back Over Bank Name Switch

Tawanda Nyambirai addressed public concerns about Steward Bank changing its name to TN CyberTech Limited. People questioned the decision on social media after news broke about the rebrand. Nyambirai started the financial institution as TN Bank in 2008 before selling it to Econet, which renamed it Steward Bank. He recently regained control and wants to bring back branding that matches his original vision.

He promised more transparency through an official Zimbabwe Stock Exchange statement explaining the changes. Nyambirai said corporate processes move slower than social media reactions but assured everyone they would provide answers. He defended the new name against criticism that it sounds strange, saying bank names gain meaning through performance and customer service.

Nyambirai compared this situation to historic banks like Wells Fargo, which might have faced similar reactions when first named after its founders. He pointed out that many Zimbabwean banks have names without obvious meanings. The businessman emphasized that good service builds better brand value than just having a familiar name.
