Nzimande declares South Africa's Science Week is not long enough

Minister Blade Nzimande launched National Science Week 2025 at Tshwane University of Technology's exhibition center. The annual celebration adopts the theme "Science for everyone" to promote broader public engagement with scientific fields. Students from Pretoria Technical High School participated as debate competition finalists alongside various technology exhibitors. The minister stressed that national development requires strong science, technology and innovation foundations. Government plans expand the week-long event into a month-long celebration beginning next year.

Demonstrations featured robotics displays and artificial intelligence research initiatives from TUT. Students expressed excitement about witnessing advanced technologies firsthand that previously existed only in entertainment media. Participants noted South Africa's potential to compete globally in technological advancement through better utilization of existing talent. The event runs through August 9 with educational activities planned nationwide. Minister Nzimande emphasized partnerships between government, industry and academic institutions as essential for harnessing creative potential across all educational levels.
