Obienyem vows to block Reno Omokri’s ambassadorial bid

A political advisor has vowed to sabotage a potential diplomatic appointment. Valentine Obienyem, a public commentator who advises former presidential candidate Peter Obi, stated he will formally petition any nation where Reno Omokri is assigned as an ambassador. Obienyem plans to urge foreign governments to reject the nominee's credentials.

In a draft letter shared with the media, Obienyem listed his objections, focusing on Omokri's past criticism of President Bola Tinubu. He cited instances where Omokri reportedly mocked the president's health and strongly questioned his fitness for office during the last election cycle. The letter argues this conduct demonstrates shifting loyalties and a focus on personal advancement over national interest, making Omokri unsuitable for a diplomatic role. Obienyem claims accepting him could harm bilateral relations.

Obienyem emphasized his readiness to provide documented evidence of these public statements, including video and social media posts. He notes Omokri had previously declared he would never work with Tinubu, framing such cooperation as against his principles. Obienyem insists his action is a matter of public responsibility, not a personal dispute.
