ODM bigwigs skip Kilifi meet, cite travel woes

Top ODM officials skipped a major party meeting with excuses about travel issues. Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga explained the absence of Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna and deputy leader Godfrey Osotsi from a central committee gathering in Kilifi. Oburu stated Osotsi was abroad in South Africa and could not return in time. Sifuna reportedly missed his flight to the Vipingo meeting location. Both individuals had formal clearance for their nonattendance.

Oburu called the meeting for direct talks on pressing national and political matters facing the movement. He emphasized the party's commitment to internal consultation and unified leadership. Several prominent figures were present, including Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, Chairperson Gladys Wanga, Simba Arati, and campaign director Junet Mohamed.

This committee session followed recent private discussions Oburu held with Sifuna. After that meeting, Oburu characterized Sifuna as a principled and steady voice inside the party. He stressed the value of open disagreement and the influence of younger members on the ODM's trajectory. Oburu also conferred separately with Minority Leader Junet Mohamed at his Nairobi office. Their discussion focused on party development and the national political landscape.
