Raila Odinga faces big trouble inside his Orange party as members complain about upcoming elections. Party leaders struggle with angry members across at least ten areas who say the delegate lists look wrong. These areas include Ndhiwa, Rongo, Nyando, Nyakach, Embakasi West, Mathare, Ruaraka, Langata, Suna West, Matayos, and Kwale County. Members claim party officials never held proper polling station votes or changed names on lists after voting happened.
In Ndhiwa, supporters of MP Martins Owino reject the official delegate list completely. Their local chairman, Jerry O'Deny, demands the party remove what he calls a fake list from their website. He claims many listed delegates never won any election at polling stations. Another local official, Nicholas Owaka from Kanyamwa Kosewe Ward, fired back, saying properly elected delegates appear on the list, but certain people want to force their favorites onto it instead.
The Orange party has stayed quiet about Ndhiwa but acknowledged that problems exist in nine other areas. They promised these places can redo their elections before moving forward. The party posted online that results from multiple areas remain unpublished because people disputed them. They plan to release results after their Central Committee finishes looking into appeals, and affected delegates will have extra time to register for new elections.
Party election chief Emily Awita announced that sub-branch elections will happen on April 7, 2025, across all counties. Branch elections follow on April 9 at centers throughout all 290 constituencies. The elections will select 77 officials at both levels across four committees: Mainstream, Women's League, Youth League, and Disability League. Members unhappy with results have 12 hours to file complaints, paying fees of 15,000 shillings for ward result challenges or 30,000 shillings for constituency disputes.
