Ugandan officials paid tribute to Brig Gen Charles Oluka on Monday. Oluka was the former head of the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) and died last Wednesday at a hospital in Seguku.
Oluka was born in 1956. He was known as a dedicated soldier. He played a key role in protecting Uganda's internal security.
His children remembered him as a loving and supportive father. They cherished their time with him.
Maj Gen (Rtd) Jim Muhwezi spoke on behalf of Chief Mourner Maj Gen Jesca Alupo. He praised Oluka's professionalism and service.
"I was his immediate supervisor for over 10 years. He was a professional intelligence officer," Muhwezi said. He noted Oluka's important role in dealing with Uganda's internal security issues.
Some officials want President Museveni to choose Oluka's replacement from the Teso region. They say this would maintain regional representation in the security sector.
"As the nation mourns the loss of Brig Gen Charles Oluka, his legacy will be remembered and honored," said former Pallisa District legislator Amoit Mariam.
After the funeral mass, Oluka's body was taken to his home in Kitende. The government is preparing for his official burial.
