A lawyer for Ken Ofori-Atta claims the former finance minister is not getting his legal rights. International attorney Enayat Qasimi told a major broadcaster that the case is politically driven. He called the INTERPOL Red Notice for his client both unjust and unnecessary. Ofori-Atta faces seventy-eight counts tied to a contract with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited, known as SML.
Qasimi argued the notice was issued with bad intentions. He stated his client was undergoing medical care in the United States, a fact known to authorities, making the notice pointless. The lawyer insisted Ofori-Atta is committed to following Ghanaian law and will answer for his actions as minister. Meanwhile, Attorney General Dominic Ayine confirmed an extradition request was sent to the U.S. Department of Justice. Ayine promised due process upon the former minister's return to defend himself.
