A lawmaker from Osun State wants the governor to stop attacking top government officials. Oluwole Oke represents people in the House of Representatives and used to belong to the same party as Governor Ademola Adeleke. He switched sides because the governor would not listen to his advice about court cases. The politician thinks Adeleke should stop going after President Tinubu and other important leaders.
Oke says the governor refuses to follow a court order that put opposition party officials back into local government jobs. The Appeal Court ruled that these All Progressives Congress leaders should return to their positions as council chairmen and other roles. Legal experts told the governor he could ignore the ruling but Oke calls those lawyers wrong. He warns that time has run out for the state to challenge the decision at a higher court.
The lawmaker wants civil servants to start working with the reinstated officials right away. He suggests the election commission should either plan new votes within six months or pay the APC officials for their remaining time in office. Oke feels sorry for opposition party candidates who spent lots of money preparing for elections that never happened. Some people sold their homes or borrowed cash to run for these positions.
State assembly members worry about reports that the Central Bank might send local government money to private bank accounts. They call this move illegal and dangerous for the democratic process.
