Ondo Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa calls for true federalism and restructured revenue sharing in the constitutional amendment debate

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa addressed constitutional reform delegates at a South-West public hearing in Akure on Friday. The Ondo State leader emphasized that amendments must represent citizen values through genuine federalism and revised revenue distribution. He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's democratic initiatives and commended the House Committee for conducting grassroots consultations. Aiyedatiwa advocated for fiscal federalism where states retain resource control and transfer 40 percent to federal authorities. He supported establishing state police forces to replace the current centralized system.

The governor proposed removing mineral resources from exclusive federal control to enable state development. Ondo State seeks constitutional recognition for its 33 Local Council Development Areas as complete local governments. Aiyedatiwa accepted new state creation but rejected territorial alterations to Ondo boundaries. Representatives from Ekiti and Osun states presented additional reform proposals during the hearing. Traditional rulers, women's groups, and civil society organizations submitted memoranda addressing governance improvements and democratic participation expansion.
