Ondo port revival unlocks Nigeria’s blue economy dream

Ondo State just got its deep-sea port project back on track with a federal revalidation. The certificate was formally presented by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in Abuja. Officials position this as a major national infrastructure project aimed at easing congestion at other ports and boosting non-oil exports through a new Atlantic trade hub. The state's original license had been stalled by a technical error, requiring this renewed approval.

Governor Aiyedatiwa framed the revalidation as a turning point for industrial growth and job creation in the state. His administration is now prioritizing supporting infrastructure like access roads and modern utilities. The port is expected to attract significant foreign investment and create a new center for manufacturing and logistics. The federal government views it as a key piece of its broader economic diversification strategy, leveraging Nigeria's blue economy potential.
