Oscars ditch TV, go full YouTube for global glow-up

The Oscars are ditching traditional TV for YouTube. Starting with the 2029 ceremony, the awards show will stream live on the platform for five years. Academy leaders Bill Kramer and Lynette Howell Taylor announced this global partnership, aiming to pull in a wider worldwide audience.

This move ends a fifty-plus-year run on ABC television. The decision reflects a broader shift toward digital media consumption. The live stream will be free to watch. Academy programming throughout the year will also find a home on YouTube under this new deal.
