Over 100k placement appeals flood the ministry on day one

Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok stated that over one hundred thousand revision requests for Grade ten placements arrived on the first day. He gave this update from Naivasha Boys Boarding School, confirming the ministry processed more than two thousand applications by that afternoon. He explained Category One school reviews are managed centrally in Nairobi, while requests involving schools up to Cluster Four are delegated to line officers for faster handling.

The system faced brief digital problems earlier that day, according to Bitok. He noted services were fully restored at the Konza data center, allowing the process to continue smoothly. He asked parents and learners for patience, reminding everyone that the seven-day review period had just begun. The Ministry of Education announced this window following the release of the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment results.

This placement exercise is part of the Competency-Based Education system. The goal is to align learning with national development goals and global trends, equipping students with competitive skills. The inaugural KJSEA exams happened nationwide last November.
