Over 200 opposition members join NRM in Ntungamo District

Over two hundred opposition supporters in Ntungamo District shifted allegiance to Uganda's governing National Resistance Movement party on Wednesday. The change occurred during a community meeting in Rwentobo-Rwahi Town Council led by presidential advisor Peace Rugambwa. Participants cited improved trust in government development projects as their primary motivation.

Rugambwa highlighted agricultural initiatives and small business support available through the ruling party. She pledged to bridge communication gaps between citizens and officials while warning against bureaucrats hindering service delivery. Resident Abdu Hakim Ragib explained that the group previously felt ignored by authorities, but renewed confidence in accountability measures prompted their decision.

The mass registration follows intensified NRM outreach efforts nationwide ahead of the 2026 elections. Rugambwa emphasized household income growth through commercial farming and value addition as core priorities. Local leaders welcomed the defectors, framing the move as validation of current economic strategies. Police maintained order throughout the event without incident.
