Over 300 party workers from Ghana's ruling New Patriotic Party just picked their favorite candidate for the next presidential race. The group calls itself the Ajumako Chapter of the United Grassroots Club for Bryan Acheampong and held a big meeting Wednesday. Patrick Arthur led the team and told reporters that Bryan Acheampong should be the party's choice for 2028. The workers want other party members across Central Region to support their pick. Arthur said more than 40,000 polling station executives nationwide agree with their choice.
The party faces serious problems with fighting between different groups. Two major camps have formed around Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong. Arthur warned that these battles are tearing the party apart from the inside. He compared the situation to an old Bible story about early Christians who fought over different leaders. The group worries that supporters are even splitting along religious lines.
