Painkiller Remake Launches October 9, Adds Online Co-op Mode

Saber Interactive and Anshar Studios revealed when their Painkiller remake will launch. The companies will release this modern version of the 2004 People Can Fly shooter on October 9. Players can buy the game for PC through Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. The remake offers a fresh take on the classic first-person shooter experience. Gamers can place pre-orders right away through all digital stores.

The Standard Edition costs $39.99 and comes with the Iron Crusade skin pack. This pack features new looks for all four characters named Ink, Void, Sol, and Roch. Console buyers who pre-order receive the Burnished Pride weapons pack as an extra bonus. The Deluxe Edition sells for $49.99 and adds three future downloadable content packs. Each pack contains six weapon skins and four character designs.

Players take control of a character sent to Purgatory for crimes against Heaven. The Voice of the Creator offers one final chance at salvation through demon combat. Gamers must stop the fallen angel Azazel from attacking Earth. The remake supports online cooperative play for up to three people. This feature differs from the original single-player-only version.

Movement options feature jumping, grappling hooks, and dash abilities across large environments. Players face demon armies and massive creatures called Nephilim. Tarot cards help upgrade character abilities throughout the adventure. Each character brings special advantages for energy, health, power, and damage output. The gothic setting maintains the dark atmosphere of the original game.
