Pakistan cozies up to Russia in Moscow power talks as energy deal rumors swirl

Pakistan and Russia shook hands on a huge energy deal during secret talks in Moscow. Ambassador Syed Tariq Fatemi flew to Russia for two days of high level meetings with energy bosses. The Pakistani diplomat sat down with Pavel Sorokin who runs Russia's energy department. Both countries want to work together on major power projects that could change everything. The meeting happened behind closed doors at a government building in the Russian capital.

Fatemi told the Russians he feels happy about energy partnerships between both nations. He thanked Russia for helping Pakistan get more secure energy supplies for millions of people. The ambassador said both governments and private companies need to team up on energy deals. Pakistan puts energy cooperation at the top of its priority list with Russia. Fatemi believes the partnership will keep growing stronger over the coming months.

Sorokin visited Pakistan back in February and met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during that trip. The Russian official spotted several areas where both countries can work together on energy projects. He mentioned hydropower plants, gas supplies, and fixing old oil refineries as major opportunities. The two sides plan to discuss energy deals at a big commission meeting in Islamabad later during the year. Both diplomats left the meeting feeling positive about future energy partnerships.
