Pakistan trade with Kabul wilts as bullets fly

Trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan declined in the first half of 2025, according to Kabul's Ministry of Industry and Commerce. Bilateral commerce totaled 1.108 billion dollars through June, compared with 1.117 billion dollars in the same 2024 period. Pakistan remains one of Afghanistan's largest regional trading partners. Afghanistan's Chamber of Agriculture urged stronger economic ties between the nations.

Pakistan's State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry warned on Saturday that his government would respond with force if border talks fail to halt cross-border terrorism. Chaudhry said Afghan nationals comprised roughly 80 percent of perpetrators behind recent terrorist incidents within Pakistan. The minister emphasized stricter frontier controls were under review to prevent militant infiltration. He called stability necessary for development.
