Paramount purges Colbert's Late Show following Trump settlement

CBS executives terminated The Late Show with Stephen Colbert after network officials cited budget concerns as the primary factor. Industry observers suspect political motivations influenced the decision following recent corporate developments. Paramount Global recently resolved legal disputes with Donald Trump regarding allegations of interview manipulation favoring Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump filed suit against CBS claiming editors altered footage to benefit Harris during campaign coverage. Legal experts dismissed the case as lacking merit while warning that corporate settlements might embolden future media attacks. Democratic legislators criticized Paramount for potentially negotiating favorable terms with Trump to facilitate the pending Skydance Media acquisition worth billions.

Colbert addressed the controversy through humor before confirming his program would cease production. The comedian has helmed the late night program since 2015 when he assumed control of the franchise that began broadcasting in 1993. Network officials have not identified replacement programming for the vacant time slot.
