Parliament Approves Ruku and Wendot as New CSs

Parliament gave full backing on Wednesday to Geoffrey Ruku and Hanna Wendot as new members of the Cabinet. The National Assembly voted to approve both nominees after they faced questions from the Committee on Appointments earlier this week. Lawmakers received the committee's report Tuesday before making their decision.

Ruku will lead the Public Service ministry, replacing Justin Muturi. The Mbeere North lawmaker promised fair service to all Kenyans during his vetting. He plans to fix employment issues across government offices. Ruku also wants to make sure public jobs reflect Kenya's diverse population as required by the Constitution.

Wendot steps into the Gender ministry position left empty since the previous Cabinet dismissal in July 2024. She takes over from Aisha Jumwa, who lost her job last year. Wendot, widow of former Senator William Cheptumo, will also oversee culture and heritage matters. The Speaker must send the parliament's decision to President William Ruto for official appointment.

Both nominees will take their oaths soon before starting their duties. Their approval completes the Cabinet positions that needed filling.
