Partey Shrugs Off Black Stars Captaincy Talk

Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey says the Black Stars team has no problems about who leads them. People outside the squad create stories about captaincy fights that do not exist. The 31-year-old Arsenal player wore the armband when Andre Ayew was absent during past matches. Mohammed Kudus became captain during Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan after Partey faced injury. Jordan Ayew led the team during final qualifying games and received permanent captain status from the Ghana Football Association.

Partey told 3Sports that he never wanted to control the team or demand leadership roles. He joined the national team because he wanted to serve Ghana like other great players before him. The midfielder believes captaincy changes should happen smoothly without creating drama among teammates. Coaches and players face difficult questions from reporters about leadership issues that start from rumors. The Black Stars return to action during September when they play Chad and Mali during World Cup qualifying matches.
