Authorities at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital arrested a patient who allegedly stole copper pipes from the ward where he was receiving treatment for a fractured leg. Police identified the suspect as Taona Dzimbo, 40, who was caught damaging hospital lights and removing internal copper parts while admitted. Staff became suspicious after noticing flickering lights and missing fixtures, prompting a search that led to Dzimbo’s bedside locker, where police recovered 45 pieces of copper pipe and an aluminum pipe.
Hospital staff and patients were surprised that Dzimbo, who was using crutches, managed to navigate through the ward and dismantle equipment without being detected. He remains under police guard at the hospital and will face theft and vandalism charges once discharged.
