Penarol Keeper Drama Explodes After Muslera Snub

Guillermo de Amores sat out Sunday when Peñarol faced River Plate at Parque Saroldi. The goalkeeper has missed three games after hurting his muscle against Plaza. Coach Diego Aguirre said de Amores was healing well and could return for the weekend. The team wanted their starter back for important matches. De Amores had beaten out Martin Campaña for the number one spot.

Fernando Muslera nearly signed with Peñarol but chose Estudiantes de La Plata. Muslera had promised Aguirre he would join training within fifteen days. Aguirre met with his goalkeepers on Friday to discuss the possible signing. De Amores learned about the talks and called the whole situation unfair. The club had blocked his transfer attempts last season.

De Amores wants to leave if another team makes him an offer. He thinks the club treats its players badly. Aguirre told reporters that committed players should stay with the team. Players who want to leave can find other clubs. The coach plans to move forward with whoever remains loyal.
