PM Modi calls Mohanlal a leading light of cinema

Malayalam actor Mohanlal thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi after receiving congratulations for the Dada Saheb Phalke Award. The prime minister praised the actor's exceptional versatility across multiple film industries. Modi highlighted Mohanlal's contributions to Malayalam cinema and his performances in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi productions. The actor expressed deep appreciation for the encouraging words from the nation's leader. His response emphasized gratitude toward cinema as an art form and those who supported his career journey.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced the prestigious honor on Saturday, following recommendations from the selection committee. Officials described Mohanlal's career as inspirational for future generations of performers. The award recognizes his work as an actor, director, and producer across Indian cinema. Government representatives will present the recognition during the 71st National Film Awards ceremony on September 23. Mohanlal previously earned the Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2019, while becoming the first actor to be awarded honorary lieutenant colonel status in the Territorial Army in 2009.
