Police hunt cow raiders after herder attacked in Akwa Ibom village

Akwa Ibom State Police Command began searching for attackers who assaulted a cattle herder in Etoi village within Uyo Local Government Area. Officers recovered meat from a slaughtered cow and returned it to the rightful owner after the Thursday evening incident. Police spokesman DSP Timfon John announced that authorities received an emergency report at 5:30 pm on September 11, 2025 about a herder being held captive in nearby bush area. Responding officers found the attackers had fled the scene when police vehicles approached the location.

The suspects abandoned six sacks filled with beef before escaping on foot from the remote area. The targeted herder managed to flee with his remaining cattle during the confrontation and returned safely to his community. Prince Ahmed Aliyu from the state Cattle Dealers Association confirmed the slaughtered animal belonged to Alhaji Siddiki Makaka of Jada Local Government Area in Adamawa State. Police continue investigating the attack while working to arrest those responsible for the assault.
