Police Powerhouse Omalla Succumbs to Cancer

Sam Omalla died Monday morning at Mulago National Hospital after fighting cancer for months. His company, Arrow Security Systems, said he passed away at 7 a.m. He worked there as operations director after leaving the police service with assistant inspector general rank. He became famous during his time leading Kampala police operations against protesters. Many people remember him for his tough actions against opposition leader Kizza Besigye.

Government supporters praised Omalla for keeping order on city streets. Rights groups often criticized him for using too much force against demonstrators. His methods showed how officials dealt with political opposition in the early 2010s. After police work, he moved to private security with Arrow Systems. His family plans to share funeral details soon.
