Police recover 204 stolen cattle in Meru-Isiolo raid, no casualties reported

Police just recovered over two hundred stolen cows from bandits near the Meru-Isiolo border. The National Police Service confirmed a multi-agency operation, involving the Anti-Stock Theft Unit, successfully tracked and intercepted two hundred four head of cattle stolen in a recent raid. Security teams from Meru County located the herd within twenty-four hours after the theft was reported, causing the rustlers to abandon the livestock and flee into thickets near the border area. No casualties occurred during the recovery phase, and the animals are now under police guard pending identification and return to their owners.

The NPS stated this operation reflects an intensified effort to combat livestock theft through coordinated patrols and community partnerships, aiming to end the cycle of violence and economic damage in northern frontier regions. This action follows rising banditry incidents in areas like Meru North and Tigania, which recently saw fatal raids and increased security deployments. Authorities are urging local residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement of large herds to police or via emergency hotlines.
