Police Summon ASP Njie for Speaking Out on Unruly Politics

A police worker named Binta Njie was called to meet her bosses yesterday. They wanted to discuss something she wrote on Facebook. Ms. Njie used to speak for the police. She comes from Kiang.

A man named Baboucarr Bahoum said mean things about the people of Kiang after his party lost a vote there. He called them "ungrateful." This made many people angry.

Ms. Njie wrote on Facebook that Mr. Bahoum's words were very bad. She said they could make people fight with each other. Her police bosses didn't like what she wrote. They wanted her to take it down from Facebook.

Ms. Njie said she was talking as someone from Kiang, not as a police worker. She didn't want to remove what she wrote. The police asked her to come talk about it yesterday morning.

The police want to be careful about what their workers say before the big election in 2026. They worry other police workers might say things that sound like they like one party more than others.

Many people think Ms. Njie did nothing wrong. They say she was just standing up for her home area when someone said mean things.

A news writer named Mustapha Darboe said Ms. Njie wasn't being political. He said she was just telling people not to say hurtful things about where she comes from.

The police also talked to Mr. Bahoum about what he said. They let him go home. We don't know if they will charge him with anything wrong.

The police sent out a message last night. They said all police workers must follow rules about how they act. They said Ms. Njie was not arrested but they will deal with what happened inside the police.
