Presidential Debates Taskforce urges Malawi candidates to attend August forums

Golden Matonga leads the Presidential Debates Taskforce as chairperson while requesting all candidates participate in scheduled August and September election debates. The United Transformation Party confirmed through Vice President Hellen Chabunya and presidential aide Mayamiko Mwinjira that candidate Dalitso Kabambe will attend all three planned sessions. Matonga expressed satisfaction with UTM's commitment and hopes other political organizations will make similar pledges. The taskforce has contacted leadership from the Malawi Congress Party, People's Party, Alliance for Democracy, and United Democratic Front regarding participation.

This non-partisan group represents multiple sectors through media representatives, government officials, civil society organizations, and various stakeholders. MISA Malawi provides leadership while the National Democratic Institute offers technical assistance for the electoral process. The same coalition organized presidential debates during the previous 2014 and 2019 general elections with identical organizational membership. Member groups span human rights commissions, law societies, broadcasting stations, youth councils, and civic education organizations across Malawi's democratic landscape.
