Prison service denies, Bobe murder suspects not inmates

Malawi's prison service is shutting down bogus online rumors about that doctor's murder case. A spokesperson named Steve Meke said claims that the suspects are inmates from Chichiri Prison are completely false. He stated that none of the people the police showed are current prisoners and that all inmates are fully accounted for.

The police did a reconstruction of the crime in Blantyre with six suspects. Among them is a guy from Mozambique, Raphael Msalanyama Mano, who used to work in the police and intelligence. Other suspects being investigated include Charles Chikafa and Santos Chamamba. The victim was Dr. Victoria Bobe, a well-known doctor and teacher who was shot at her home in Chigumula.

Meke called the social media reports irresponsible, saying they just cause panic and hurt trust in security agencies. He told people to check facts with proper sources before sharing stuff online. The murder of Dr. Bobe, who worked at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, shocked the country, and people are still demanding answers.
