Uganda's prison system is now on its highest alert level ahead of the national elections. The commissioner general directed all units to intensify security and intelligence coordination from mid-December through mid-February. This Standby Class One order restricts staff leave, suspends the use of hired prisoner labor, and bans all visitations during several key dates around the holidays and the January vote.

It follows a pattern of imposing maximum security readiness during sensitive political events. Prison commanders face personal accountability for any security lapses under the new guidelines, which also tighten access to all facilities and staff barracks.
