Prophet and crew held after botched exorcism kills man

Police caught a fake prophet and eight church members after a man died during a spirit removal ceremony. Charity Mafirowanda leads a white garment church and claims she can cast out demons from people. The 46-year-old woman and her followers face serious charges related to the death of Micky Chuma. Officers arrested nine people total from the religious group last week. The incident happened at a local shrine where the group performs their rituals.

Church members gave Chuma a special drink during the June 18 ceremony. They wanted to remove evil spirits from the 54-year-old man's body using their homemade mixture. The religious ritual went wrong and Chuma died at the shrine location. His followers tried to hide what really happened to him. They carried his dead body back to his house and put him on his bed.

The group covered Chuma's body with blankets to make it look like he died at home. Police believe they wanted to hide the real cause of death from authorities. Officers discovered what actually happened and arrested all nine suspects. The arrests took place around Kwekwe where the church operates. Detectives continue working on the case and gathering more evidence about the deadly ceremony.
