PSG chases Doha glory as Pyramids stalk in shadows

FIFA confirmed Sunday that Paris Saint-Germain will compete at the Intercontinental Cup final Dec. 17 in Doha. The European champions face an undetermined opponent from a qualifying playoff. Egyptian club Pyramids battles either Cruz Azul from Mexico or the Copa Libertadores winner four days before the final. This challenger emerges from the playoff contest.

Two Brazilian teams reached the Copa Libertadores semifinals this year. Palmeiras meets LDU Quito while Flamengo confronts Racing from Argentina. The South American tournament concludes Nov. 29. The original Intercontinental Cup matched European and South American champions from 1960 through 2004 before becoming the Club World Cup, with Real Madrid winning last year's revived format against Mexican side Pachuca.
