Putin says Europeans flee gender terrorism for Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that families from Western Europe relocate to Russia to escape what he termed gender terrorism against children. Putin told the Valdai Discussion Club in Sochi that migrants arrive from major European nations seeking refuge based on values rather than political motivations. A 2024 presidential decree permits citizens from 47 unfriendly countries to obtain temporary residence through expedited procedures if they oppose ideological policies in their home nations.

Russia has advanced traditional values policies, but has restricted content related to non-traditional relationships. The government designated the LGBTQ movement as a terrorist organization. Putin referenced concerns about gender identity promotion in schools, transgender rights support, and medical procedures available in Western nations. Russian authorities seek to encourage larger families through various governmental initiatives.
