QNAP Debuts Dual-Controller ES1686dc R2 for Enterprise HA

QNAP released its ES1686dc R2, a high-performance storage system for businesses needing constant uptime. The 16-bay device uses SAS connections running at 12 Gb/s speed with dual controllers that work simultaneously. This setup keeps systems running even if hardware fails.

The new storage system is aimed at companies that need file servers or virtual machine storage. It allows workers to replace parts without shutting down operations. Waterball Liu from QNAP says their QES operating system makes advanced storage easy to use when businesses cannot afford downtime.

The system protects data through various methods, including deduplication, compression, and corruption prevention. Each controller comes with four network ports supporting 10-gigabit connections. Users can add more network cards for faster speeds up to 25 gigabits.

The storage works with VMware, Microsoft, and Citrix platforms for virtual machines. Companies can expand storage space simply by swapping disks for larger ones. Three models offer different processor and memory options to match various needs.
