Qualcomm drops Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme, Apple M4 Max fans cry

Qualcomm introduced two new chipset categories alongside the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, presenting the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme and Snapdragon X2 Elite processors. Both silicon designs employ advanced 3nm manufacturing technology for enhanced performance capabilities. The X2 Elite Extreme represents Qualcomm's most powerful processor, featuring 18 cores and achieving 5.00 GHz boost frequencies, while competing directly with Apple's M4 Max architecture. The standard X2 Elite is available in two configurations, each with varying core counts and cache specifications.

The flagship X2 Elite Extreme targets ultra-premium computing applications through its advanced Oryon CPU architecture and enhanced Adreno GPU performance. Manufacturers plan to release the first laptops powered by these processors during the first half of 2026. Both chipsets support advanced AI processing capabilities through integrated Hexagon NPU technology. These processors aim to deliver professional-grade performance for demanding computational workloads.
