Qualcomm tests Samsung 2nm chip for Galaxy Z Flip 8

Qualcomm continues development of a Samsung-manufactured Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 variant using 2-nanometer gate-all-around technology, with the chip entering trial production. The company officially launched the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 on TSMC's 3-nanometer N3P process, but reports suggest a second version remains under consideration despite earlier indications that Qualcomm had abandoned Samsung as a foundry partner.

Samsung's 2-nanometer process currently achieves approximately 50 percent yields, a rate considered insufficient for large-scale Qualcomm orders. Industry sources indicate the Galaxy Z Flip 8 may be the sole device featuring the Samsung-produced chip, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy S26 lineup would use TSMC-made processors. Mass production would likely require Samsung to demonstrate yield rates reaching 70 percent.
