Raila calls Kenyans to Kamukunji to honor pro-democracy spirit

Raila Odinga told reporters Sunday that Kenyans should come to Kamukunji for Saba Saba Day. The opposition leader wants people to honor the democracy fight that started July 7, 1990. He said the same problems from back then still hurt Kenya today. Police violence, money troubles, and human rights abuse continue to plague the country. Raila believes the original protest goals remain unfinished.

The ODM boss plans to show up at Kamukunji himself for the big event. He wants to remember the brave people who died during the 1990 protests. The same spot where activists demanded multiple political parties will host Monday's gathering. Raila thinks Kenya has not fixed its broken systems after 35 years. The economy still struggles and cops still beat citizens.

Saba Saba changed Kenya from one-party rule under Daniel Arap Moi to democracy. The historic day marked the start of constitutional changes and legal opposition parties. Many people lost their lives fighting for political freedom back then. The movement opened doors for fair elections and better government. Today's event honors those who paid the ultimate price.

Schools across major cities stayed closed Monday morning over safety fears. Recent protests turned violent with looting and police crackdowns. Parents worried about their children's safety during the demonstrations. Many urban schools decided to keep students home until things calmed down. The education system took no chances with potential trouble.

Anti-riot officers set up roadblocks on major roads leading to downtown Nairobi. Police stopped cars and searched vehicles despite government claims of normal business operations. Security forces feared protesters might sneak into the city center. The roadblocks blocked both private cars and public buses from reaching downtown areas. Officers worried about surprise attacks on government buildings.
