Rain chaos puts Blaney on Mexico City podium

NASCAR drivers raced at Mexico City's Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez for the first time Sunday. Ryan Blaney finished second during Stage 1 after rain caused early problems for several competitors. Kyle Busch crashed with five other cars during the opening laps and created chaos across the field. Officials called two caution flags within seven laps as wet conditions made racing dangerous. Shane van Gisbergen started from pole position but struggled with changing track conditions.

Ryan Preece won Stage 1 after staying on track longer than other front runners. Teams switched tire strategies when the weather cleared around lap thirteen. Many drivers pitted for slick tires as the track dried and gave up their positions temporarily. Ross Chastain finished third behind Blaney and Preece during the opening stage. The race continues for 80 more laps around the 2.41-mile circuit with unpredictable weather remaining a factor.
