Raw Chaos Hits Nampak as Rivals Slash Sales

A company called Nampak Zimbabwe had a hard time selling boxes and other packaging because many other companies started selling the same things. They also had problems because their supplies came late through a port in Mozambique. The late supplies made it hard for them to give customers what they needed during Christmas time.

The company head, Mr Van Gend, told everyone that the company made less money than last year. They earned 23 percent less money, and their profits went down by 56 percent because people bought fewer things from them. The company started using US dollars for its business in April 2024.

One part of Nampak, called Hunyani Paper and Packaging, sold 35 percent fewer boxes than last year. This happened because other companies were selling similar boxes, and tobacco companies ordered less packaging than usual. Another part of their business did better and sold 4 percent more boxes than last year.

Their plastic-making factory, Mega Pak, had problems because the electricity kept going off. When this happened, their machines broke down more often. They bought new generators to help keep their machines running better. Their metal box factory also made fewer things because their supplies came late, but these supplies should arrive soon.

Another big company, TSL Limited, wants to buy a large part of Nampak Zimbabwe for 25 million US dollars. Both companies agreed they want to make this happen, but they need special permission first. Mr Van Gend said they will keep trying to spend less money to ensure the company stays strong.
