Real Madrid Defensive Titans Roar Back to Life

Four Real Madrid defenders returned to team practice before the Club World Cup begins. Eder Militao joined his teammates for the first time since tearing his ACL last November. The Brazilian center-back suffered the same injury two years earlier and should return to games around late July. Antonio Rudiger continues healing from his injury and might play before the other three defenders. David Alaba moves closer to full fitness after knee surgery ended his season early.

Real Madrid faces Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal during their tournament campaign. Dani Carvajal works through the final steps of his ACL recovery program. Team doctors refuse to rush the right-back's comeback after signing Alexander Arnold as backup. The Austrian Alaba completed knee surgery at the end of April and could feature during the competition. Medical staff has not announced when any defender will officially return to match action.
